Our body is a brilliant work of art by nature and repairs almost every ailments and injuries by itself or with the help of some antibiotics. Our internal mechanism are designed to indicate when something is wrong with our body or something is about to go wrong, only we should know how to read those indicators. One such indicator is changing colors of our lips and you should be alarmed if for any reason our lips even show a tinge of blue color. This condition is called cyanosis and it affects gums, lips and even hands and feet. If cyanosis happens, it may indicate that you are suffering from one or more than one of the following diseases. Pneumonia is a sign of a disease known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease reaching a severe stage. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD is a disease that affects the lung and causes many other problems like lung diseases including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, refractory (non-reversible) asthma, and some forms of bronchiectasis. It makes breathing difficult as the airways to and from the lungs is congested due to mucus build up. This also restricts oxygen from getting into the blood and it changes the color of lips and fingernails to blue or grayish.
The severest stage of COPD is pneumonia, a stage where lungs are filled with water instead of air and this causes severe difficulty in breathing and lungs cannot produce oxygen properly. Also pneumonia mimics a common cold and can be diagnosed very late and often turns out to be fatal, if medical attention is not administered.
3 Heart failure
Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart fails to pump the blood properly. This is a chronic disease that takes its own time to manifest and by the time people recognize that their heart has a problem, it is too late. Heart becomes weaker as the years progress and finds it difficult to pump blood at full capacity and the first signs of congestive heart failure are blue lips as the body diverts blood from non essential areas in times of limited circulation.
