Could you ever imagine a bra that could be used for emergencies? Well the idea seems baffling at first because how exactly could a bra help you in any sort of emergency. Well as weird as it may sound, it can.
Read on to find out the famous emergency bra created by a Ukrainian scientist Dr Elena Bodnar
1 Useful in any biochemical situation
Dr Elena Bodnar a Ukrainian scientist has created the concept of an emergency bra which can be transformed into a face mask in event of a chemical explosion or any biological hazard. The device looks just like an ordinary bra but if by chance you suddenly find yourself in an explosion or a gas leak then all you need to do is separate the cups form each other, place the cup interior over your mouth and nose and use the strap to firmly grasp it in place.
The emergency bra converts into an effective gas mask where one cup is for the wearer and another can be given to someone in need standing next to you.
2 Protects two people in any situation
Doctor Elena Bodnar has even won an award for her invention the emergency bra. In 2009 she won the IG Nobel Public Health Prize which promotes scientific achievements which may make people laugh but also makes them think. For an average woman, it would take just under 25 seconds to convert the bra into a gas mask. Of course it would also take an additional 20 seconds to choose the lucky person who gets to wear the second cup.
3 A device being planned for men too
Dr Bodnar who is now in Chicago was inspired with the idea after the disastrous events of the Chernobyl gas leak. According to her “If people had had cheap, readily available gas masks in the first hours after the disaster…they may have avoided breathing in Iodine-131, which causes radiation sickness,”
Dr Bodnar also stated that in such perilous times, people need to be alert where the emergency bra could also save people from fires, dust, storms, or outbreaks of infectious diseases such as swine flu. There is also a related device now being planned for men. Watch the video demo.
