It has been 19 years since Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris and yet the world continues to adorn and remember the fairytale and yet controversial life she led. She was 36 years old when she died and left behind two children Prince Harry and Prince William from her ex husband Prince Charles. 1 Life before marrying Prince Charles

Princess Diana was homeschooled till the age of 9 and had failed her O level exams twice. Diana attended the Riddlesworth Hall in Norfolk after the divorce of her parents. At the age of 12, she was sent to a boarding school, West Heath School. She then worked as a baby sitter and cleaning woman after finishing the schooling in Sweden.

2 The Ring she selected for her engagement

Diana was proposed to by Prince Charles in 1981 and she said yes. She selected an engagement ring from a catalog and the ring was a large diamond ring costing £30,000 (£94,800 in today’s terms) designed and made by Garrard. It has 14 solitaire diamonds which surrounded a 12 carat oval shaped Ceylon Sapphire. The ring now belongs to Kate Middleton.

3 Her wedding set a record

Diana was 21 years old when she married Prince Charles on 29th July 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in place of the Westminster Abbey. 600,000 people lined the streets to see the royal couple on their way to the ceremony and more than 750 million people tuned into the live coverage of the wedding, setting a record for viewership. She also wore a wedding dress which had a 25ft long train and was valued at 9,000 pounds.

4 Fulfilled her son’s wish

Prince Harry had a massive crush on supermodel Cindy Crawford when he was 13 years old and he mentioned the same to his mother and said that he wanted to meet the beautiful model. Princess Diana then invited Cindy Crawford to the Buckingham Palace for dinner.

5 Her Nobel Prize win

Lady Diana has a huge philanthropic portfolio. She supported well over 100 charities all over the world and worked in different ways to bring happiness to people everywhere. She was the spearhead of a campaign Ban the Landmines and she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She only supported six charities: Centrepoint, English National Ballet, Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Leprosy Mission, National AIDS Trust, and the Royal Marsden Hospital after her divorce in 1996.

6 Her struggles with weight issues

Princess Diana struggled all her life battling with bulimia. She revealed that her problems with weight issues started when she was engaged with Prince Charles. She says “My husband put his hand on my waistline and said: “Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?” That triggered off something in me.”

8 Her unfortunate death

On 31st August, 1997, Princess Diana and her friend Dodi Fayed were travelling in France when their car was involved in a serious and fatal car crash in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris. This took lives of Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed, driver Henri Paul and security manager of Hotel Ritz Paris. More than 31 million people tuned into watch the funeral of Diana.
